Mr. Tew founded SJ&L, Inc. in 1978 and serves as its Chief Executive Officer and President. He oversees day to day operations and is very active in the firm. A native of Mobile, Alabama, he worked in the family plumbing business until starting SJ&L, Inc. at the age of 25.
Over the past decades he has experienced and performed every facet of the business. He has grown it from a small start-up company to its present day size employing over 40 employees and performing upwards of $12MM per year in work.
Mr. Jones is our Document Control Specialist. He has been with SJ&L, Inc. since 2015. Before working with us, Bill worked many years in banking. He makes sure that each employee understands insurance and other benefits. He does our payroll and also with makes sure that our job tickets reflect proper phase codes. He works to ensure that our weekly taxes get paid.
Mr. Jones prepares submittals, sends them to the engineers and maintains the job submittal logs. He also provides assistance to the project manager.
Mr. Brown is the Operations Manager for SJ&L, Inc. He is a graduate civil engineer from the University of South Alabama and is currently registered as a professional engineer in Alabama and Mississippi. Les has extensive utility experience having worked for the Mobile Area Water and Sewer System for over 27 years, retiring as the Assistant Director. One of the responsibilities of the Assistant Director was the development and implementation of the utility’s Capital Improvement Program. The annual budget for capital improvements routinely exceeded $20 million and included renewal and replacement of water and sewer infrastructure, water and wastewater plant construction, expansion of the system’s service area as well as treatment upgrades necessary to meet increasing regulatory demands.
Other construction experience includes approximately 10 years in the marine construction industry involving hydraulic dredging and petroleum pipeline construction and maintenance.
Mr. Hathcock is the Financial Officer for SJ&L, Inc. and a native of Mobile, Alabama. He began working for SJ&L, Inc. in 2016. He attended the University of Mobile where he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in finance in 2013. He also worked two and a half years for the University of Mobile’s accounting office before working at SJ&L.
Some of the many things James does for SJ&L, Inc. include: reviewing financial statements, creating financial reports, and analyzing financial processes and making recommendations to ownership.
Mr. Holcomb is the Project Manager for SJ&L, Inc. and he has been with us since 2013. He attended Auburn University where he graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in building science. He uses many programs and is very skilled in 3D modeling.
A big part of Cory’s position includes estimating and seeing the bid process through from start to finish.
Mr. Wiliams is our General Superintendent since 1995. He works on earthwork, roadway, highway and utility construction projects ranging in size up to ten millon dollars. A valuable member of SJ&L, Inc. since his high school graduation, Wes has gradually worked his way up through the company, starting off as a laborer.
Before being promoted to General Superintendent, Wes was in charge of the Austal USA project, a ten million dollars site work project, the largest completed to date by SJ&L, Inc.
Ms. Pope has been with SJ&L, Inc. since 2002. She has been responsible for the daily office affairs during the course of the years as needed. She handles all banking records, all accounts payable, all accounts receivable, all ADEM reporting for 2 dirt pits, the company account records, and the general day to day operations of the office.
Brenda is involved with job input into the computer system and has a good working knowledge of the course of the jobs and the materials used on the jobs.
Ms. Sprinkle is the Executive Assistant for SJ&L, Inc. She attended University of South Alabama were she received a bachelor’s degree in psychology.
Tevia is in charge of social media and website exposure for SJ&L, Inc., she troubleshoots technology in the office, she runs errands, and she also assists any office worker with various projects. She also helps guide visitors and prepares the office for meetings.
Mr. Wilson is the Equipment and Shop manager for SJ&L, Inc. Jay has been an employee since 1997. He makes sure that all of SJ&L’s equipment is running smooth. He orders new equipment and works closely with the office keeping us updated on our supplies. He is in charge of all the business aspects of the shop.
Jay and his team maintain the equipment, the trucks and the buildings. He is also skilled in fabricating steel and aluminum projects and piping associated with jobs.
